FAQs

  • The theory behind water birth is simple: the birthing mother births her baby into an environment that is similar to the warm fluid protected space of the womb. The goal of using water during the birth process is to increase the comfort, peace, and relaxation of the mother so that she can easily “let her baby” out if she choses to stay in the water at the time of birth.  Using a birth pool as a comfort measure is also a great tool to have during labour. A woman can go in and out of the birth pool as she pleases (Water Birth International, 2022).

  • Some of the possible benefits of using a birth pool during labour and/or childbirth are:

    • shortens labour

    • relaxation

    • lower chance of perineum tear

    • natural comfort measure

    • freedom to move

    • your spouse/partner can come in to support you

    • can help support your weight (floating sensation)

  • An aquadural is when a woman uses warm water as a comfort measure to help with surges (contractions).

  • The internal measurements of the pool are 38” x 47”. The external measurements of the pool are 65” x 55” x 26”.

  • About 10 minutes to inflate and another 10-15 minutes to fill with water.

  • Between each use the pools are sanitized with medical grade cleaner. All pool renters must use a liner.

  • If you have a Doula she (or I) will take care of this for you! One less thing to worry about.

If you do not have a Doula it is recommended that you scoop out any birth aftermaths (like poop) before emptying the pool. You can use the dirty bucket provided to fill and empty in the toilet.

A second option is to use a small submersible pump. This option is an extra fee. Please contact to inquire.

  • Your support team can fill the birth pool when you are about 6cms if you are getting cervical checks.

If you are not getting cervical checks, you can fill it half way with warm water once you feel that you are in active labour. Once you feel like entering the pool your support team can fill the rest up.

Ensure that the temperature is 37 degrees Celsius by using the provided thermometer.
